Mercedes-AMG Ceramic Coating in Manchester

AMG cars are the most powerful cars Mercedes makes — and some of the hardest to protect. Matte paint finishes, Brabus carbon fibre, huge grilles and low front ends all need specialist care. Here is what ceramic coating and PPF actually do for a Mercedes-AMG, and what we recommend from our own work on AMGs in Manchester — including a Brabus GT 63 S in matte black.
Key takeaway
Mercedes-AMG paint must be machine-polished before any protection — coating or film locks in whatever is underneath, swirl marks included. Ceramic coating adds gloss, water repellency and chemical resistance for 2–3 years, from £180 at Latin King Detailing. PPF is the only protection that stops stone chips — a full front end typically costs £1,200–£2,500 in the UK, a full car £3,500–£6,500+. We have detailed a Brabus Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S in matte black in Manchester — the same preparation applies to every AMG we work on.
Why Mercedes-AMG paint needs specialist care
AMG cars come with two paint challenges other cars do not have. First, matte paint: AMG offers Magno matte finishes, and matte paint cannot be machine-polished like gloss paint — one wrong pass with a polisher will shine a matte panel permanently. Matte paint needs matte-safe products and a different technique entirely. Second, Brabus and AMG carbon fibre: exposed carbon weave on splitters, diffusers and mirrors needs dedicated care, not all-purpose products.
The other factor is use. AMG cars are driven hard — motorway miles, autobahn speeds, track days. The low front end and huge grille take stone chips, and the large wheels throw grit at the sills and rear arches. Protection on an AMG is not cosmetic; it is what keeps a £100,000-plus car looking like one.
Ceramic coating for a Mercedes-AMG
A ceramic coating is a liquid SiO₂ polymer that bonds to the clear coat and lasts 2–3 years. On an AMG it deepens the gloss, makes the car dramatically easier to wash, and protects against bird lime, tree sap, road salt and UV. The process is always the same: full decontamination, machine polishing to remove swirl marks, then the coating itself. Ceramic coating at Latin King Detailing starts from £180, and every AMG is quoted individually based on model, size and paint condition.
One note on matte paint: ceramic coating can be applied to matte finishes, but it must be a matte-safe coating — and it will not add gloss. If your AMG has a Magno matte finish, tell us when you book and we will use the right product for it. Our Brabus GT 63 S work was on a matte black car, so this is a finish we know well.
PPF for a Mercedes-AMG
PPF — paint protection film — is a clear polyurethane film applied to the paintwork. It is the only product that stops stone chips, because it is a physical barrier. Modern films are self-healing, so light scratches disappear with heat, and they last up to 10 years. On an AMG the most common packages are a full front end (bonnet, bumper, wings, mirrors — typically £1,200–£2,500 in the UK) or a full car (£3,500–£6,500+). PPF is fitted in a specialist studio, not as a mobile service — Latin King Detailing does not fit film, but we do the paint correction and ceramic coating that every PPF job needs first.
The combination most AMG owners choose is PPF on the front, ceramic coating over the whole car — film where the damage happens, coating everywhere for gloss and easy washing.
Paint correction first — always
Before any coating or film, the paint must be corrected. Swirl marks and fine scratches are removed by machine polishing — permanently, not filled in with glaze. On an AMG this is done carefully, with paint depth measured first — and on matte paint, correction is limited to what is safe for the finish. Paint correction at Latin King Detailing starts from £300.

Frequently asked questions
How much does ceramic coating cost for a Mercedes-AMG?
Ceramic coating at Latin King Detailing starts from £180, and every Mercedes-AMG is quoted individually — the exact price depends on the model, the size of the car and the condition of the paint. Every package includes full paint decontamination and machine polishing before the coating is applied, and we confirm your fixed quote before any work begins.
Is PPF worth it on a Mercedes-AMG?
For most Mercedes-AMG owners, yes. The film is the only protection that stops stone chips, and a respray costs far more than the film — a full front end typically costs £1,200–£2,500 in the UK, a full car £3,500–£6,500+. If the car does motorway miles or track days, PPF on the front is the highest-value protection you can buy. Many owners combine PPF on the front with ceramic coating over the whole car.
Does ceramic coating protect a Mercedes-AMG against stone chips?
No. Ceramic coating adds gloss, water repellency and chemical resistance, and it reduces light swirl marks — but it is only a few microns thick and cannot absorb a stone impact. Only PPF protects against stone chips. If chips are your main concern, talk to us about PPF on the front end plus ceramic coating over the rest of the car.
Can you ceramic coat matte paint?
Yes — but it must be a matte-safe ceramic coating, and it will not add gloss. Matte paint cannot be machine-polished, so the preparation is different: decontamination and careful cleaning, then a coating designed for matte finishes. We have worked on a Brabus Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S in matte black, so this is a finish we know well. Tell us your car is matte when you book.
How long does ceramic coating or PPF take on a Mercedes-AMG?
Ceramic coating takes 1–2 days including full decontamination and machine polishing. Paint correction, if the paint needs it, takes 6–12 hours. PPF is fitted in a specialist studio over 2–6 days depending on coverage. We confirm timings when you book.
Do you detail Mercedes-AMG cars at my home in Manchester?
Yes — fully mobile. We bring our own water and power to your home, workplace or any suitable outdoor location across Manchester, Urmston, Trafford, Salford and Greater Manchester. The car never has to be driven to a unit, queued behind other cars, or left overnight.
